God vs. Science and Evolution

This last week I had an interesting experience.  I had a meeting with a guy who is a paleontologist.  During the course of our discussion, he started talking about the God vs. science and evolution debate that seems to never end.  At one point, he said, "you see, if there's only God, then you can't ask any more questions.  There's just God.  But if you have science, then there are millions of questions to ask and then seek an answer."  I thought it was an interesting comment and I've thought a lot about it.  The moment was not right for a discussion on this age-old argument but it dawned on me today what the correct response would have been. 

First of all, I have long believed that God and science are compatible.  I don't understand why people think they are not.  I believe that God is the ultimate scientist, that his creative works are done through the laws of science.  As an all-knowing, perfect Father in Heaven, His knowledge of science is perfect.  In fact, I believe He is the source of what scientific knowledge we have today.  He rewards people who work hard to gain knowledge and our world is better for it.  That being said, I do not believe we know everything He knows in the realm of science or that of any other for that matter.

So back to my response.  Ultimately, this man's conclusion that there are no questions to which we can seek answers is flawed.  There are actually several, the most appropriate of which is "Why?"  Why did the creation happen?  This then opens up a multitude of follow-up questions. 

I believe in both science and God.  I'm grateful for both!
