Journal Jar: A Special Date

When I was thinking about what to write for this topic, I immediately thought of the second date that Brad and I went on together. He invited me to go shooting with him and his sister, Suzanne, and her husband, Bradley. I was really excited because I actually enjoy shooting targets very much -- and I have to say, I'm not bad at it!

Anyway, we drove up to the San Tan Mountains in Arizona and found a great spot. We shot the guns and ate a little for dinner. When we were done, Bradley and Suzanne took off for home but Brad and I decided to go for a walk to the top of the hill. We made it in time to see the sun set and just talked for a while. We just "clicked"; we had so much fun talking together. We finally looked at a watch and "a while" unknowingly had turned into five hours. It was 2am! We still had to hike down the hill and drive out of the mountains. By the time we made it home it was after 3am. Our singles ward had a service project later that morning and we were all meeting at 5am. Both Brad and I had committed to go so we figured there was no point in getting some sleep. So, we went back to his parent's place and watched the movie, Babe. (That was a really stupid movie. I thought the moral of the story was fine, but I adamantly oppose non-animated, talking animal movies. They are just wrong.)

I'll never forget how Brad's mom walked in during the middle of the movie and was really surprised to see me there. Brad and I thought it was funny.

He dropped me off at home just in time for me to get ready to go to the service project -- my friend, Jennifer, was coming to pick me up and if I wasn't at home to meet her I was sure my parents would freak out. Jennifer about died when I told her I had just gotten home! I'm not sure if my parents ever knew about it, either. Needless to say, neither Brad, nor I were very useful at the service project!

I have to say that it was quite the memorable night not just because I stayed out all night (I rarely do that!) but because that was really when I started falling in love with him (Wow, that sounded gushy!). We became such good friends so quickly and we had so much fun together -- we still do! Brad is still my best friend. How blessed am I to have him as my husband!

Journal Jar: What Makes You Feel Good?

I think this is a pretty broad question, but I'm in the mood to write so I'm OK with that.

I actually have been pondering this during this the last week. I have been emotionally all over the board and I've been trying to figure out why. I'm not one to have physical cycles affect my emotions so here is what I have come up with: I feel the best when I have been focused and productive in something positive. When I let myself be lazy, especially when I have a million things to do, my emotions fall apart. Last Saturday I participated with some friends of mine in a discussion group that focused on healing through energy. I have been interested in natural healing since I became a mother and have learned a lot. There are several techniques of "energy healing" and that night we learned one that was different from what I had previously learned. After practicing those techniques I felt so much better! I had lost my "happy place" and was able to find it again. I've been doing this with Jillian and Brad and even my friend, Ali, this week. Jillian loves it and says it makes her feel really good. I can see the difference in her also.

Aside from that, here is a list of things that give me warm fuzzies:

Hot, homemade, wheat bread with homemade strawberry freezer jam
Reading good books
Being with my family
Dates with Brad
Working hard and seeing the fruits of my labors
Going to the temple
A good talk with a friend
Laughing
Having a good workout
The rush of wind around me as I ride my bike really fast
Listening to the sounds nature around me (except mosquitoes -- that just irritates me)
Doing my best at whatever I am working on
Holding my children
Praying
Having a clean house
Learning about and developing my talents

***That is all I can think of for now. I'll probably add more to it as I think of them.

Funnies

Yesterday the firemen visited Jorja and Logan's preschool. Logan told me all about what he learned: stop, drop, and roll; only call if there is a real emergency -- and not if you're just playing "hide and seek"; and their phone number is 9-1-1. Later Jorja was telling me that she learned the phone number also: 111-00-111. She was very adamant that that was the correct number: "It wat the phwone number! It wat!"

This morning Logan informed me, again, that he wants a pet dog -- a real one. He said he wants three and he wants them all to be girls so that they can have babies. I told him, "That's not really how it works. You need to have a boy dog also." To which he replied, "Well all right then, one can be a boy and then we will have three girls." I think he wants a dog farm, not just a pet!

Skeletons

I believe that everybody has "skeletons in their closets" or rather things that they don't want other people to know about themselves. Well, mine isn't in my closet at all; it is on my kitchen window:

This fly has been smashed on my window since last fall. Yes, that's about five months now. When people come over I either close the blinds or raise them to the fly level so that it is not seen. Jillian keeps begging me to clean it and I have to admit I, myself, was rather grossed out in the beginning. But the little guy has grown on me and now I am reluctant to remove him because it is so funny that he has made it this long. Besides, if Jillian really wanted it off that bad then she would do it herself. By the way, can you tell I don't clean my windows that often? Ha ha ha ha ha!
