Tiger Scouts

We signed Logan up for Tiger Scouts this year. We went with a local pack because the church pack doesn't do Tigers and we wanted to see how another pack was run. Logan has loved it!! He participated in the Pinewood Derby in January but all my pictures of that event were blurry so I didn't upload them. In February we had the Blue and Gold Banquet with the Mic-O-Say Indian Dancers. He had a lot of fun!

What a handsome boy! This is at the Blue and Gold Banquet. The dancers had all the scouts gather at the front for some interactive games and dancing. One of them was picking up a feather on the floor with your mouth, but you could only have two other body parts touching the floor. Logan volunteered so quickly that I didn't have time to get him doing it so I had him demonstrate at home later that night.

Also in February the Tiger cubs went on a field trip to tour The Kansas City Star newspaper facility. It was really interesting! Since the kids had the day off of school I took everybody with me.

Logan with his Tiger den. He is the second scout on the right. They are standing in front of where the papers are transported by a big machine (see below). This process was revamped and is one of the most technologically advanced in the country -- it is almost completely automated.

You can see the newspapers hanging from the yellow clips in the center of the photo.

This is the supply room. It is 100% automated; the fork lift moves back and forth along the isle and pick up what is ordered then it brings that item to the front (or vice versa).

You can see the rolls of paper used for printing.

In the background are the gigantic vats of red, yellow, magenta and blue ink. They go through all of these about every six days!.

An old fashioned Linotype (see the description below).

Love this picture of the girls with downtown Kansas City in the background.
