A Fun Trip

I realized in December that we had a bunch of use-it-or-lose-it points on our credit card towards hotel stays so we decided to take a small trip to Kansas City. We did this because it was close to Brad's work and required little travel time. We had such a blast! I first took the kids to the Hallmark Museum and then to Kaleidoscope at the Crown Center in Kansas City. The latter is a crafting paradise where the kids can color with melted, glow-in -the-dark crayons, paint, make their own puzzles, masks, etc., etc. And the best part is that it is free! Yippee!

This is one of those things where you push up the pins to make the shape of what is pushing it, only it is as big as a table. So fun!!

Outside of Kaleidoscope. The kids came away with not only their craft items but a few other supplies for their craft drawer at home.

The Crown Shopping Center has a free play room that they decorate with various themes. There was a huge obstacle course made of "crayons" the kids raced on. Here they are playing with the heat sensitive plates. Below, they are in the crayon house!

There is also a chocolate store at the Crown Shopping Center. We caught the workers making fudge. They put the hot fudge on a table and then throw it up in the air to make it fluffy with air bubbles. As it cools, it hardens and they shape it into a log (seen on the right). Along the way they give out samples to those watching. It was fun watching how high the fudge could go!!

We met up with dad, found our hotel, and then went out to eat, always a treat!! The next day we went to Science City, at Union Station in Kansas City. It was so much fun!! I am a huge science fan and this was great. There were all sorts of exhibits, from live animals to weather, to sewer systems, to anatomy. Above, Jillian, Logan, and Jorja are on a "bed" doing an optical illusion.

This was a fun exhibit on motion. The silver table was spinning fast and then you try to get the rings to roll in place on the table.

Me riding the bike on cables. There are a bunch of bricks attached to the bottom of the bike, which make it steady. There is nothing holding the bike on the cables, but there is a net underneath! My kind of fun. :)

I think this was our favorite exhibit! Logan spent at least an hour here. It was a study on water flow. You could change where the water went by using the blue "walls". When they had the path finished they had boat races! So much fun!!!

Of course, Logan and Jorja made a new friend!
